'MOUNTAINS TO SEA' BOOK FESTIVAL IN SEPTEMBER...
The festival is called the Mountains to Sea Book Festival and will take place mainly in Dún Laoghaire over a four day period.
The line-up for the festival includes international luminaries such as Paul Auster, Sebastian Faulks, Patrick Gale, Douglas Kennedy and Sadie Jones, while local writers includes Anne Enright, Declan Hughes, Julie Parsons, Paul Howard and Maeve Binchy. The authors will be engaged in a series of author events, while other programmed events include the Leviathan Political Cabaret, tributes to Hugh Leonard and a one off grand literary tour.
Books in the Park, a series of readings and activities for children, will be staged over two days in the Peoples Park, and will include book and food stalls, and entertainers.
This is the first year of this festival, and the intention is to grow this into an annual event on the literary calendar. Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council is already being known for their excellence in annual events such as the Festival of World Cultures and Poetry Now.
Commenting, Event Organiser, the Heritage Officer of DLRCC, Tim Carey, said "We are delighted to be staging an event that celebrates the literary heritage of the county. Dun Laoghaire Rathdown is unique in being home to some of our most famous literary geniuses, including Joyce, Beckett, Flann O'Brien and Hugh Leonard while its contemporary literary landscape is second to none. Our intention with this festival is to celebrate this landscape, and put together an annual event that will become a 'must-do' event on the literary calendar, while also appealing to the constituents of the county".
